In 2011 I experienced what I now know as a Dark Night of the Soul. I didn’t know I was going through a “dark night of the soul” at the time. All I knew is that my life stopped working and I was plunged into a darkness that felt like death. It was during this time that I was prompted by an inner whisper to learn to meditate. From then on, everything changed. It was the beginning of me waking up and I can see now, from the rearview mirror, that those months of darkness were not a tomb but a womb–a necessary incubation for my growth as prescribed for me by my soul.
I shared my experience with Bev Janisch in the following interview. I hope this speaks to you and gives you comfort, especially if you’re in your own Dark Night of the Soul.
Bev Janisch’s work on Dark Night of the Soul is extraordinary. She’s done extensive research into the “dark night” as well as having her own experiences to draw from. Bev’s an author and gifted meditation teacher and coaches women through their journey of awakening.
